Bloody Mountain and the Bloody Couloir
Bloody Couloir is reputed to be the local test piece for Mammoth Mountain backcountry skiers.
Thanks to a reasonably easy approach (it's short, at least), the couloir avoids many of the pitfalls of more remote locations.
The chute is steep, though perhaps not quite as much as it appears, and the runout is forgiving. As a test piece, the route is perhaps best considered a training run for more committing ventures.
A fine variation can be had by veering to skier's right (east), down a narrow, y-shaped couloir.
