The Cascades
the Ring of Fire volcanos

Mount Hood and the Hood River, Oregon
The Cascades are home to several of the world's great volcanos. This subset of the Pacific Rim's "Ring of Fire" volcanos contains Rainier, the range's apex, as well as Mounts Bachelor and Washington, with their fearsome glaciers.
To the south, the range dips into Northern California, which features the Mount Lassen Volcanic national park, and of course the summit of Mount Shasta.
I could go on and on about Mount Shasta. Suffice to say, we Californians are very lucky indeed to have such a magnificent mountain in our state. Mount Shasta may be well the finest backcountry skiing peak on the planet. Whether you go to ski, climb, or just gawk at it, go now, and be inspired.
mount shasta - 14,132-foot Shasta is one of the world's great mountains, and those of us who live in California are lucky to have it our backyards, even if it is a rather long big backyard.
