Mount Langley's north face and Tuttle Creek Drainage
At 14,027 Feet in elevation, Mount Langley is California's southern-most fourteener, but it receives comparatively little attention compared to its famous next-door neighbor, Mount Whitney.
On close inspection, the peak reveals a striking couloir that cuts east from the summit plateau, then angles north, forming a giant "S" as it drops toward Tuttle Creek.
Tempting variations abound along this stately peak's flanks, which feature enough rolling terrain to make even the Coloradans take notice.
Ski mountaineers beware, however: this is still the Eastern Sierra, with a low, hard approach necessitating either an overnight or a heroic effort to gain the summit. Furthermore, spring arrives early in this part of the range, and the merciless heat of the Owens Valley can make quick work of the snow pack at lower elevations.
