Hidden within the Hoover Wilderness, the dubiously-named Matterhorn Peak is one of the Sierra Nevada's most popular summits, drawing hoards of climbers and peak-baggers in summer.
The spectacular vistas of the Sawtooth range, inviting, extensive snow fields, plus easy access, make this region a fine introduction to Sierra Backcountry skiing.
The Peak offers three principal routes: the East Couloir, West Couloir, and East Ridge. All are steep, but not too steep, with broad, safe run outs onto the small glacier below.
