Brilliant Andy. BTW, thanks for the Jetboil review - I am buying one.

I enjoyed the Onion Valley Report since I was on the High Sierra Trail at the exact same time for 5 days with a 75lb pack (4×5 camera stuff)

    Once again: great blog!

Thanks Michael! Hearing about your pack wt makes me feel a lot better about carrying a 5lb D300 around. I guess I’d better stop complaining. :) Enjoy the Jetboil - I think it’s a fantastic stove. Write back and let me know how it works for you.

The D300 sounds good to me about now. I carried a D700 with a 17-35ƒ2.8 on this last trip and am comparing the results with the big camera. The first image made with the D700 is here: http://www.michaelambrose.com/ Heading back out this week with just the D700 and about a 25 lb pack…ahhhh…thats a vacation for a 4×5 photographer

I have to admit I’ve been coveting that FF sensor since the D3 was released. And the low-light performance is stunning, from what I’ve seen. But I don’t think we’ll be able to squeak that into the budget this year.

Are you going to put up a gallery of all D700 pix?

  5. Michael Says:

Nah…I am not going to segregate them, but mix them in with the film captured work. I think it’s more important fir my customers to be thinking about the High Sierra or a slot canyon than what camera it was made with. You will be able to tell fairly easily what images were made with what though…if it’s Ionian Basin or North Pal from the summit of Mt Aggasiz, you can pretty much count on it being the D700!
