Both Mountain High and Mt. Baldy report 2-3′ of new snow this morning. If you can get to either resort today, I’m guessing you’ll find reason to enjoy yourself. Snow Valley reports 24″ of new snow, but Highway 18 is basically shut down right now, with the dreaded chains-on-all requirement. Mammoth says just under 4′ of new snow fell in the last 24 hours, with 5-8′ reported over the past four days. Gotta love those insane Pacific storms. Looks like this one has locked up a stellar backcountry season for all of us well into May-June now. Nice!

I’m cursing myself for not heading up today, instead I’m going tomorrow. Should still be good, I hope. I’m very curious as to qualify of snow and distribution, given the high winds in this storm.
More notable in my view than the 4′ of snow at Mammoth is that ESAC threw up the bright red High and it’s still there. Here’s hoping they didn’t get some really unstable mid-layer that hangs around for weeks.

Skied Jean Pk yesterday, Tues, on a new layer of creamy powder. Beautiful blue sky day. Just cold and breezy on the summit. 17″ new reported at the Long Valley RS, with not much under it in that area, but the base is much deeper higher up.

Went up the south fork trail in the SGW sat 3/26 and spent the night near south fork meadows. It was 20+ degrees warmer than forcast and everything was basically thawing. The new snow was quite wet and formed a substantial breakable crust in late afternoon. Some ok deep slush skiing on Sunday but wasn’t going to trust the steeper slopes. Corn skiing can’t be far off.
