Mount Whitney's North Face
A rare view of 14,497' Mount Whitney's north face and summit hut, as seen from the top of Mount Williamson. John Muir's Mountaineer's route enters from the left, crossing approximately 400 vertical feet beneath the summit before joining the much less steep western slope and gaining the summit proper.
From this perspective, it is easy to see why this treacherous traverse regularly claims climbers' lives.
