Ambrose at GreenStone Lake

Ambrose at GreenStone Lake

One of the few upsides to our snowless 2012 winter has been perhaps-unprecedented access to the interior Sierra in the dead of winter. Photographer Michael Ambrose recently made good use of Tioga Pass Road with a visit to Greenstone Lake, where he captured this stunning image of ice and lenticular clouds.

Michael splits his time between large format film and digital photography. Either way, his prints are gorgeous. I've been trying to ferret out his secrets for a while now, to no avail. :) As for the lakes, those of you with ice skates may wish to make one last dash across the Pass.

Change appears to be coming as of this weekend, though it's hard to imagine anything like a normal winter returning. And if you'd like to see more of Michael's photography, you can visit his site michaelambrose.com or stop by Yosemite's Tenaya Lodge, where he has a gallery and prints for sale.

Thanks Andy! All it takes to get those "secrets" from me is us both being at the same place at the same time with a hot pot of tea...
