University Pass
On June 6 I returned to Onion Valley, intending to ski the "official" University Pass. But as it turns out, there is some disagreement as to which col is actually UP.
So which col is which?? According to Google Earth, the low point on the ridge is actually where I skied a week ago, and some sources do identify that chute as "University Pass."
However, both Paul Richins and RJ Secor clearly identify UP as the chute you see here, so I'm going with their designation. If it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me. In any case, I've skied both, so hopefully I've got my bases covered. :)
Whichever gully you pick, both offer fine skiing at about the same level of angle and excitement.
For this somewhat ambiguous University adventure, I was joined by the inimitable Dave Braun. Dave unconvincingly claimed he was out of shape, but as usual charged right up the hill.
When the road is open, access to the Robinson Lake drainage is pretty glorious by eastern Sierra standards, so don't miss this area if you haven't toured here before. Robinson Lake trail starts at the campground adjacent the Onion Valley parking lot and should get you to snow by 10,000' or so.
With less texture, expect outstanding skiing potentially all the way to the car.
