Point Mugu Flowers

Wildflowers, Point Mugu State Park

For me it is definitely a strange and bittersweet wildflower season compared to years past, but there are flowers out there if you're willing to look for them.

This is La Jolla valley, Point Mugu State Park. There were a few spectacular blooms here and there, and Sycamore Canyon is pretty lush, but the creek crossings are dry and the Sandstone Peak/Boney Mountain area looked pretty dry as well.

I think we've about wrapped up the local scene for the year. We did get some storms, but they were widely spaced, and things just kept melting in between. That said, hardy souls can still hike (and hike and hike) for turns on Gorgonio.

Wiser probably to head north. Mammoth says skiing into June. For backcountry, Virginia Lakes is getting favorable reviews, and I believe Shasta had a big year. Onion Valley Road is open to the trailhead; if I can get myself motivated, I'll probably head up for a little snow time there.
